Facilities Engineer

The Bridge Theatre is looking for a Facilities Engineer to support with the smooth running and upkeep of the building. The role will be responsible for the day to day facilities management and maintenance and in overseeing the theatres M&E and life safety systems. This role will report into the Senior Management Team and will work in conjunction with maintenance contractors and in coordination with the Theatre Administrator. The role is predominantly practical and partially desk based. The individual will be a primary key holder and as such have a responsibility to be on call out of hours.

Salary: £32-35k dependent on experience

Terms: This is a permanent position; flexible working based around but not limited to a 42- hour average working week over 5 days usually Monday – Friday. There is no overtime agreement as part of this contract, but TOIL will be given for hours worked beyond the average.

Key responsibilities:


  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the building, responding to any maintenance issues as required
  • Planning and implementing a rolling programme of maintenance and repair
  • Prepare reports on maintenance issues as required, contributing to costing and procurement
  • Scheduling and carrying out planned preventative maintenance
  • Carrying out reactive maintenance as required
  • To maintain fixtures and fittings

Services and Resources

  • To be responsible for the contracting and the diary management of external contractors, including the planning of weekly visits from our preferred third-party service company
  • Liaising and coordinating with the estate maintenance team of One Tower Bridge
  • Daily interaction with the theatre’s facilities specific software (BMS)
  • Daily interaction with TDSi access system

Health and Safety

  • To be responsible for security and life safety systems and to organise and manage regular tests of the fire alarm and fire safety equipment
  • To help ensure that regulatory documentation is kept up to date Security
  • To act as primary key holder and main contact for out of hours security company and the estate

Person Specification:


  • A good Knowledge of building M+E systems
  • Proactive attitude
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Practical skills and experience relating to day to day maintenance issues
  • Basic practical skills for maintenance of fixtures and fittings
  • A good level of IT skills with the ability to use Microsoft office
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills – ability to communicate with contractors, stakeholders and staff at all levels, including explaining technical issues to staff without a technical background
  • A firm understanding of Health and Safety and current legislation


  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in facilities, operations or technical theatre background
  • Experience of working in a theatre
  • Experience of IT management software including facilities specific software (i.e. TREND BMS)
  • Mechanical and/or electrical trade experience
  • IOSH certification and IPAF/PASMA license
