COURTNEY PINE – Black Notes from the Deep featuring special guest vocalist OMAR + NIKKI YEOH
Monday 13 November 7.30pm
Following their sold-out Barbican show in March, the return of this new project sees two of the UK’s finest jazz and soul talents composing, recording and performing new original material.
No musician more embodies the dramatic transformation in the British jazz scene over the past thirty years than saxophonist Courtney Pine. The ground breaking, multi- instrumentalist has led a generation of exciting and innovative players who have broadened their styles to take jazz out to a wider audience.
Soul star Omar, whose 1992 hit single There’s Nothing Like This established an instantly recognisable sound, has since earned widespread critical acclaim.
+ Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker
Monday 30 October 7.30pm
Richard Thompson is one of this country's greatest songwriters and most distinctive guitar virtuosos, capable of breathtaking drama and sublime delicacy, prompting Rolling Stone to hail him as “a perennial dark-horse contender for the title of greatest living rock guitarist.” His songs have been covered by everyone from Alison Krauss to Robert Plant.
Over the summer, he'll be releasing a second Acoustic Classics album on Proper, coupled with Acoustic Rarities - and he'll draw his set from all these albums and much more besides. He has chosen the Award-winning duo Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, recently signed to Rough Trade records, as his special guests on the tour.
