Absolute Music: Ravel
Simon Russell Beale curates a series of evenings inspired by classic works of chamber music
20 November 2017 - 8:00pm
The first will take you on a journey to the Paris that gave birth to Ravel’s String Quartet in F, a city witnessing the dawn of the new industrial age and inspiration to a composer obsessed with factories, machines and mathematical precision. Simon and others will read passages from Proust as well as poetry by the likes of Wordsworth, Auden and Larkin to paint a rich canvas against which the prize-winning Navarra Quartet will perform Ravel’s exquisite early quartet.
Also featuring Penelope Wilton and Adjoa Andoh as readers.
Future evenings will be inspired by works including Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 and Mendelssohn’s Octet.Quartet.
Tickets: £25 & £20
Running Time: 75 mins (approx)
